In 1962, Szépalma became the stud of the Bábolna State Farm, and horse breeding continued. The condition of the buildings steadily deteriorated and from the early 1980s onwards farming began to decline. In addition to horses, unsuccessful attempts were made to rear sheep, goats and chickens.
The shady trees and varied flora of our arboretum also hide the tombs of a horse cemetery from the last century, where, among others, the mare from the Hungarian Derby-winning stud farm in Kerteskő, named Babat Fairy, is buried. An interesting fact about the kerteskő stud farm is that it was formerly part of the Bábolna stud farm together with the stud farm of Szépalma.
Also sleeping on Szépalma is the excellent stallion Pink Pearl, who won the Polish St.Leger and the Czech Derby at the age of 3, and Bank, who won 36 races, including the Hungarian St. Leger. The most famous of the horses buried here is Imperial and Irha’s grandsire, the stallion Intermezzo II.
