The valuable protected plant population and evergreen collection of the Arboretum includes species and varieties such as giant sequoia, Atlas cedar, giant thuja, Japanese Thujopsis. These plants are not only of botanical value, but also of horticultural value through their thoughtful planting. Among the deciduous trees on the estate, there are also beautiful specimens such as the century-old chestnut and the small-leaved linden.
The planting and landscaping of the past decades has led to a number of changes that have shaped the face of our arboretum, with particular attention paid to the composition of the deciduous trees, which follow the natural plant communities.
The garden character of the planted and existing evergreens was also an important aspect of all the gardening work.
A small island has been created on the shore of the lake to provide a ‘safe’ nesting site for waterfowl.
In addition to the rich flora and fauna of our arboretum, the shady trees and bushes are home to graves of famous Hungarian thoroughbred horses. In addition to the horse cemetery, the Esterházy cemetery is also located in this area of Szépalma.
